4-DAYs KTM TOUR FROM OUARZAZATE TO chegaga

DAY 1: OUARZAZATE – TAMALOUT: This will be a good introduction to the riding desert as it will be mainly fast and smooth tracks in the morning, giving valuable gravel experience in the skillful turns

. Deep gravel riverbed provides a mid-morning fault, although we make sure there are enough stops for you to catch your breath. We offer riding tips as the day progresses for those who need them.

A picnic followed by another of those gravel riverbeds then a traverse of a vast plain on fast, packed clay tracks take us up to the village where we’ll spend the night in a mountain riad.

DAY 2: TAMALOUT – ZAGORA – CHEGAGA: An interesting tarmac road winds through the foothills of the High Atlas to our first fuel and coffee stop and we hit the dirt on a beautifully undulating fluid the track, which gets increasingly rough and difficult throughout the morning.

A steep slope and if there’s been any recent rain, the Rockies pass by at the end of the morning. A picnic on the trail will be great. The mountains become more and more like a canyon in the afternoon, before a dramatic descent down the side of the canyon brings us out onto the Draa valley.

Then we climb to the summit of Jbel Zagora, a 300-metre high mountain close to the town offering fantastic views over the Draa valley to the north and the desert to the south.

We then continue south on the old Rally tracks, where you can practice the skill of keeping the bike stable at high speed. A picnic while we refuel the bikes, before we head off on the fast and flowing follows this westerly direction to the Chegaga dunes.

On arrival at the bivouac, we enjoy the shade of the restaurant tent and a few cold drinks before heading out into the dunes in the late afternoon for some dune practice. You’ll enjoy evening meals at the bivouac, as well as a campfire and Tuareg drummers to entertain us.

DAY 3: CHEGAGA – FOUM ZGUID: Enjoy the desert sunrise if you’re an early riser, then lunch and “kit up”. This morning we continue crossing this section of desert, heading west to Foum Zguid. Rocky at the start, the track soon smooths out and we’re soon cruising across the (usually) dry lakebed of Lake Iriki.

Find out how fast a KTM really goes. We pick up an old Dakar track that takes us into the town of Foum Zguid. We arrive at our hotel for lunch, and although there’s a 3-hour riding loop for those with energy, there’s the option of just sitting by the pool and enjoying liquid refreshments.

DAY 4: FOUM ZGUID – OUARZAZATE:
Today we’ll cross the anti-Atlas mountains, and after a short tarmac liaison, we arrive at an incredible gorge, where Berber villagers push dates on an intensive scale\. After one more village – and our last chance for shade until lunch, before we climb, climb, climb up the dramatic tracks clinging to the side of this ancient mountain range

A short descent and a quick blast across the agricultural plains, brings us to Tazenakht for our lunch. The tour is almost over, but the smooth, radical gravel track back to Ouarzazate is a delight. This will be the end of our tour.
